Most of you know that I’ve spent some time falling in love with Greenville, South Carolina over the past few years. What started as a random email to the Hotel Domestique manager has evolved into an amazing relationship with the hotel and the Hincapie family – one filled with incredible memories and experiences that have truly blown me away.
In August of 2014, I was on the cover of Triathlete Magazine. Just a page prior to the story they wrote about me (balancing a full-time marketing job with Innovation360, my social life, and my family with training and racing professionally) was an account of Hotel Domestique. It caught my attention and I reached out just to say “hey, we’ve shared articles in the same Triathlete Magazine edition, congratulations, we’d love to visit sometime!” And that lead Brandon and I down a path that we never expected.
Our first visit was a few weeks later for one of the XD (Experience Domestique) trips, “Ride with Hincapie.” I blogged about it afterwards… but we were just in heaven upon arrival. Nestled in the heart of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, the Hotel blends rustic architecture with elegant decor and luxurious amenities. It was established my George Hincapie, and the hospitality was beyond anything I’ve experienced, the cuisine was unforgettable, and the opportunities for adventure were endless. For a week, we rode through the Blue Ridge Mountains with George, Rich Hincapie, Christian Vande Velde, Craig Lewis and the others in our group. We ate incredible food and drank more fine wine than I’d care to admit. We mixed in trainer-led yoga and laps in the salt water 25 meter hotel pool. We ran out the front door of the hotel, did hill repeats, then found our way back to protein smoothies ready-made for us, freshly prepared sandwiches, and our bikes cleaned and pumped up again to a perfect 110 psi. Brandon and I just could never get over how amazing it all was. Just a dream!
We found our way back to Greenville for the Gran Fondo Hincapie that fall and the following year as well. Just like our first trip, no detail was left unattended and everything was over the top incredible. Even the weather cooperated. 2016 holds a new adventure for us at Hotel Domestique. This year, from May 2nd through May 6th, we will be hosting a Triathlon Camp! I’m pumped! I knew that it was set up perfectly for something like this and with much planning and preparation, we’ve finally made it happen.
For a full four nights and five days, attendees will be able to train amidst the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, have the insightful eyes of a pro triathlete upon them, dine at Restaurant 17 and eat incredible, flavorful food, and have the support of a professional bike mechanic, photographer, and soigneur – and just being able to enjoy the company of the group and the atmosphere at the hotel during downtime is pretty awesome too! Upon arrival, everyone is geared up with some awesome cycling gear too. And just like everything else they do, the Hincapie apparel brand is high quality and unparalleled.
I hope you join us and George Hincapie in May – if you want to experience the amazing playground that Greenville offers, don’t miss out on this one. For details on this and other XD camps click here. For the Triathlon Camp brochure, check out this link.
